The best path forward isn’t always the same one you started down, which is why MedArrive is pivoting from delivering in-home care to “ClinOps orchestration for healthcare@home.”
MedArrive got its start at Redesign Health in 2020, powering care-at-home programs for payors and managed care groups by integrating physician-led telemedicine with in-home care from EMS professionals.
- Although MedArrive saw great results reducing ED usage and hospitalizations among the Medicaid populations that it worked with, the lackluster reimbursement meant that it would be a rough road to building a sustainable business.
- Instead of ignoring that economic reality and fueling visits with its $40M of VC funding, MedArrive decided to chart a new course where it could leverage its lived experience to enable other in-home providers to deliver better care.
To meet the needs of its own providers, MedArrive developed a comprehensive platform that handles:
- Patient and Labor Capacity Planning – models patient engagement and staffing needs
- Resource and Shift Management – ensures optimal labor use for anticipated visit volume
- Scheduling and Routing Optimization – maximizes utilization by minimizing driving
- Care Coordination – EHR-integration informs care planning and supports documentation
- Monitoring and Analytics – highlights critical efficiency, ROI, and clinical outcome levers
MedArrive is now focused on fine-tuning the tech infrastructure that it built for its own providers to meet the needs of other organizations looking to deliver high-quality in-home care.
- That’ll start by teaming up with other providers to co-develop new features and integrations to translate MedArrive’s own success to more partners, with full commercialization planned at some point over the next year.
The Takeaway
One of the best ways to get close to the problems of your end users is to spend time in their shoes, and it’s hard to get closer than MedArrive has by actually delivering in-home care. That experience should give MedArrive a leg up on competing platforms if it can help replicate its results with new partners.

- U.S. Ranks Last on Healthcare: The U.S. ranked last on healthcare in Commonwealth Fund’s robust report comparing the performance of 10 wealthy countries on access, administrative efficiency, outcomes, and equity. The top three countries were Australia, the Netherlands, and the UK. The unfortunately unsurprising outlier was the U.S., although it’s tough to pin all the blame on the healthcare system considering confounding factors like “rampant inequality, catastrophic underinvestment in mental health and non-hospital services for older folks, gun violence and addiction, and unhealthy diet.”
- AvaSure + Oracle + NVIDIA: AvaSure and Oracle are teaming up with NVIDIA to develop a voice-enabled “virtual concierge” that allows patients and bedside nurses to request support, translation services, and more. The virtual concierge will combine AvaSure’s Intelligent Virtual Care Platform with Oracle’s AI capabilities on a computing infrastructure powered by NVIDIA.
- Demographics and Denials: University of Toronto researchers looked into the association between social determinants of health and claim denials for preventative care using data on 1.5M patients covered through their employers or ACA Marketplaces. Of preventive claims, 1.34% were denied, and the most brutal disparity was that low income patients were 43% more likely to get a denial than the highest-income patients. There was also wide variation in denials by race, ranging from 2.72% among Asian patients to 1.13% for White patients.
- Abridge Opens the Black Box: Abridge just raised the bar for whitepapers with 29 pages of insight into the technology underpinning AI scribes, a full product performance breakdown, and the importance of systematic model evaluation. It was interesting to see the differences in medical conversation word error rates between the specialized models of Abridge (13.7%) and Google (16.6%) versus non-healthcare-tuned models like OpenAI’s Whisper v3 (22.8%). The whitepaper’s website was also as impressive as the fact that Abridge has 40% fewer errors in Spanish than English.
- SOL Joins Forces With Awell: Outpatient behavioral health provider SOL Mental Health is joining forces with Awell to automate the manual tasks weighing down its clinicians as they try to keep pace with skyrocketing demand. Awell’s CareOps platform gives SOL’s care and operations teams the power to quickly streamline processes using a low-code editor, allowing more team members to participate in the creation of care flows while opening up bandwidth for the IT team to drive innovation.
- Iris Debuts Virtual Clinic: Iris Telehealth debuted its Virtual Clinic and Iris Insights platforms to give health systems the ability to integrate behavioral care into their patient journeys. The Virtual Clinic is an EHR-integrated comprehensive care model that equips patients and mental health providers with the tools they need for effective virtual visits. Iris Insights serves as a central hub for visualizing key operational and clinical data with AI-driven recommendations.
- Hospital Safety Improvements: A joint report from the AMA and Vizient showed that hospitalized patients were 20% more likely to survive in Q1 2024 than in Q4 2019, which it attributed to improved safety practices such as reducing infections and expediting treatments for heart attacks or strokes. The analysis of data from 715 hospitals found that inpatient infections decreased significantly while health screenings have rebounded past pre-pandemic levels, including a 60-80% increase in breast, colon, and cervical cancer screenings.
- ixlayer Launches ixEngage: ixlayer took the lid off its new ixEngage solution that connects the rising number of biopharma companies going direct-to-patient with the wider healthcare ecosystem of patients, labs, and prescriptions. ixEngage includes nearly everything these companies need to spin up a DTP service, from clinical onboarding and ongoing communication to telehealth services and lab testing powered by ixlayer’s turnkey self-collection kits.
- Payors and Providers Boost IT Investment: Three-quarters of providers and payors increased IT investments over the past year, according to an exec survey from Bain and KLAS. Providers are focusing on infrastructure like cybersecurity and clinical workflow optimization, while payors are prioritizing care coordination and claims processing. Respondents also anticipate the trend to continue as they replace their legacy tech stacks with AI solutions that have a clear ROI, less manual upkeep, and reliable cybersecurity.
- Astellas Home Heart Solution: Astellas Pharma announced the FDA Class I SaMD listing of its Digitiva heart failure management solution, which combines Eko Health’s digital stethoscope and cardiovascular disease detection software with Welldoc’s chronic care management capabilities to allow more comprehensive home HF care. Digitiva is Astellas’s first digital health offering in the U.S. and is part of a growing trend of traditional pharma companies expanding into the digital realm (following Bayer, Roche, Pfizer, Novartis, BMS and more).
