Medallion just made its first acquisition with Andros and the deal already looks less like a milestone than a starting gun.
Here’s the deal. Andros is an NCQA-certified credentials verification organization that’s been credentialing providers for health plans, health systems, provider groups, and telehealth companies since 2013.
- The combination brings over one million providers across nearly 400 organizations onto a single platform, which Medallion says makes it the largest AI-native credentialing platform in the country.
The transition is already underway. Andros customers will move onto Medallion’s platform over time, gaining automated primary source collection, AI agents that handle provider outreach and follow-up, real-time status tracking, and the human credentialing specialists Medallion embeds alongside its automation.
- NCQA standardization makes the handoff smoother than most integrations, and the early reception from Andros clients has reportedly been positive.
The bigger story is the appetite. Founder and CEO Derek Lo isn’t shy about wanting more deals. Healthcare is a collection of a thousand billion-dollar markets, and credentialing is exactly that kind of vertical: multi-billion, complex, and primed for consolidation.
- Target areas are anything adjacent to the core: provider network management, onboarding, ongoing compliance, and “anything that has to do with getting providers paid.”
- Deals can be a book of business like Andros or a product Medallion keeps running independently.
- Lo frames it as an evolution of what’s possible at Medallion’s current scale rather than a strategy change, pointing to Sword Health as a company that grew into M&A the same way.
The AI bench is getting deeper. Medallion already runs AI agents across its credentialing workflows and sees vertical players holding the edge in healthcare.
- The message for founders is simple. If you’re building in health tech and want distribution or product synergies with a company now operating at real scale, Medallion wants to hear from you.
The Takeaway
Credentialing is one of the last big administrative functions still running mostly on manual labor, and so far AI investments have barely touched it. Andros gives Medallion the payer relationships and the provider volume to make that pitch at scale.
